Solo
EP and Music Videos: "Hey Little Girl" and "Goodbye
Jennifer"
-
In 1994 I embarked on a solo recording project
that ended up as a 2-song EP (extended play)
cassette that was sold at local record stores in Los
Angeles. Both songs were recorded by Steven Cook on
a 6-track cassette.
-
"Hey Little
Girl" featured Scott Duncan on bass, David Goldman
on guitars, Bill Grisolia on keys and backing
vocals, and me on drums and lead vocals. This is re-write/re-make
of my older home studio version of "Hey Little
Girl" (hear original version in 'Home Studio' section)
written about
my love for my (then) 3-year old daughter Valeri
Joy Godden.
-
"Goodbye
Jennifer" featured Lynn Grieves on bass guitar
and lead/rhythm guitars, and me on drums and lead/backing vocals.
The song is about a
man's decision to leave his beautiful but unfaithful
girlfriend.
-
In 2006, using my TV producer
license, I set up my drums in the
television studio and recorded music videos to these
songs.

Notes: In keeping with
the spirit of why this song was written (describing the
joy of watching my daughters growing up) I selected a
few dozen 3-second-long snippets from my family video
archive and creatively interspersed them (in
chronological order) throughout the 3-camera studio
production of me drumming and singing along to my 1994
song "Hey Little Girl" (which was a re-write of the
original 1987 version). This is a 3-minute version of a
21-minute "video diary" of Valeri Joy Godden and Alison
Joy Godden growing up, which includes 400 3-second video
snippets shown over a soundtrack of 11 music and voice
recordings I made while the girls were growing up. (It's
a wonderful DVD that's available to all family and
friends.)

Notes: This a a
4-camera studio production of me drumming and singing
along to my 1994 song "Goodbye Jennifer," that has clips
of some hilarious moments from my improv comedy TV show
Not Quite Right interspersed throughout, with
improv actress Eve Savona representing the
beautiful-but-unfaithful Jennifer. Very funny.
