Brains? Brains? I got no brains! I got lovely hearts and livers and spleens.”
lyrics to Brains

Strange Music from Lee's Home Studio

Listen to Music from Lee's Home Studio

  • These rough "idea songs" were performed by Lee on a 4-track Tascam cassette using single- and multi-tracked vocals, keyboard/synthesizer, live drums, Yamaha RX-21 drum machine, Yamaha QX-21 digital sequencer and an Alesis Microverb.

Note: These are low audio quality, small file size versions of the original recordings.

"I Wouldn't Be Here" (3:31, 2.8MB)

Notes: 1986 song about the homeless.

"Hey Little Girl" ORIGINAL VERSION (3:53, 3.1MB)

Notes: 1987 song about his 3-year old daughter, Valeri Joy Godden.

"Brains" (2:38, 2.1MB) (read the lyrics)

Notes: 1987 humorous 'white rapper' song about a butcher with everything but brains.

"Kimmy" (2:02, 1.6MB)

Notes: 1995 humorous song that apologizes for its very existence. Lee sings and "plays" all instruments with his voice...i.e. no "real" instruments were used.

"In My Twenties" (2:06, 1.7MB) (read the lyrics)

Notes: Feb 2, 1988 humorous song about the minutes before turning (Oh, no!) 30 years old.

"The Klondike Song" (3:38, 2.9MB)

Notes: 1986 humorous Christmas song Lee wrote for Val (age2) and Alison (age1) about joining the ranks of the imaginary "Klondikes."

Listen to Music from Lee's Collaboration with Patrick Vega

  • These "just for fun" songs were performed/recorded completely by Lee and fellow drummer and good friend Pat Vega, using Pat's 4-track cassette home studio, which included keyboard synthesizer and digital sampler. Lee sang, wrote lyrics and played keyboards/percussion, and Pat composed/played keyboard music and played percussion.

Note: These are low audio quality, small file size versions of the original recordings.

"You Belong to Me" ORIGINAL VERSION (2:03, 1.7MB) (read the lyrics)

Notes: 1987 song about letting her know what's what. Lee on lead vocals. Pat on keyboards/synthesizer/sampler. Listen for Pat's girlfriend (now wife) Lisa entering studio at end of song.

"Educated" (2:14, 1.8MB) (read the lyrics)

Notes: 1987 humorous song about both finally completing our bachelor's degrees in computer science. Lee on lead vocals/keys. Pat on backing vocals/keyboards/synthesizer/sampler.

"Hit the Ground" (1:49, 1.4MB)

Notes: 1986 early Pat/Lee song about getting up and trying again. Lee on lead vocals. Pat on keyboards/synthesizer/sampler.

"Yo Mama (edit)" (2:35, 2.1MB)

Notes: Pat/Lee's first studio collaboration in 1986. Just working out how far we could stretch the equipment. Lee on lead vocals/keys. Pat on backing vocals/keyboards/synthesizer/sampler.

Listen to Comedy Bits from Lee's Andrew & Nigel Collaboration with Mark Dito

  • These comedy bits were mainly recorded in 1983 by roommates Mark (middle name Andrew) Dito and Lee (middle name Nigel), in their Downey, California apartment. After finishing their computer science education together in San Diego, they moved up north to L.A. to become nerds with jobs. To attract chicks they drank heavily and recorded nonsensical comedy bits on a cheap Radio Shack cassette. Apparently it worked. A year or so after these recordings were made, the "partying programmers" were both married (not to each other) with one newborn baby each. Additional offspring followed. Their friendship endures to this day, but, mercifully, Mark and Lee's (a.k.a Andrew & Nigel's) comedy does not. Hey, it was funny at the time. Warning: some explicit lyrics!

Note: These are low audio quality, small file size versions of the original recordings.

"KLOS 95.5FM Mark & Brian Radio Show Submission" (1:50, 1.5MB)

Notes: What two grown men will do for Super Bowl tickets. (Both, 1990, 4-track Tascam cassette)

"Beer" (0:27, file size 429kb)

Notes: A sad, musical commentary on the drink that made Bud wiser. (Both, 1983)

"Interview with Ringo" (1:31, 1MB)

Notes: Impersonations should be left to the original. (Both, 1983)

"Insult Alarm Clock" (0:13, 188kb)

Notes: You'll want to really bash this with your fist at 6:15am. (Both, 1983)

"Cramming in the News" (0:31, 498kb)

Notes: Oh, sure, like "news anchor" Andrew wasn't on something illegal. (Mark, 1983)

"Bartender Cutting Off the Drunk" (0:39, 623kb)

Notes: Slurring takes practice. (Both, 1983)

"Dick Van Dyke Show Theme Song" (0:29, 685kb)

Notes: Um, the song had more words than that. (Lee, 1986, using 4-track Tascam cassette)
